Hope. Help. Grace.

Counseling for adolescents and families

Biblical Counseling for Life’s Challenges

Grace Place Hawaiʻi Christian Counseling Center exists to provide compassionate, Christ-centered biblical counseling to individuals, couples, adolescents, and families throughout Kailua, Kāneʻohe, Windward Oʻahu, and beyond.

Life can be difficult. Marriages struggle. Families experience conflict. Teenagers face pressures that can seem overwhelming. Anxiety, grief, discouragement, broken relationships, life transitions, and difficult decisions can leave us wondering where to turn.

We believe there is hope and help in Jesus Christ and the truth of God's Word.

Our counselors come alongside people with compassion, prayer, careful listening, and practical biblical guidance as they seek to understand their circumstances, grow in their relationship with Christ, and move forward with hope.

Grace Place Hawaiʻi provides biblical counseling for people facing a wide variety of circumstances and struggles, including:

  • Marriage and relationship difficulties

  • Parenting and family challenges

  • Adolescent and teenage concerns

  • Premarital counseling

  • Pastoral and ministry-related challenges

You do not need to be a member of Grace Church Kailua to receive counseling. We desire to serve people throughout our community and to partner with churches across Hawaiʻi in caring for individuals and families.

What Is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical counseling begins with the conviction that God knows us completely, cares deeply about the struggles we face, and has given us His Word to provide truth, wisdom, direction, and hope.

Our goal is not simply to help someone feel better temporarily. We want to help people understand their lives and circumstances from a biblical perspective, respond to difficulties in ways that honor Christ, strengthen important relationships, and experience meaningful spiritual growth.

Biblical counseling is personal and compassionate. Your counselor will listen carefully to your story, seek to understand what you are experiencing, pray with you, explore relevant biblical truth, and help you identify practical steps for moving forward.

At Grace Place Hawaiʻi, counseling is viewed as an extension of the Christian ministry of discipleship and care for people.

Counseling for Adolescents & Families

Young people today are navigating tremendous social, emotional, relational, academic, and spiritual pressures.

Grace Place Hawaiʻi has a particular heart for adolescents and their families.

We work with teenagers and parents dealing with issues such as family conflict, relationships, identity, peer pressure, school difficulties, anger, discouragement, anxiety, decision-making, spiritual questions, and challenging transitions.

Our desire is not only to help a teenager through an immediate problem, but also to strengthen relationships between young people, their families, their church, and trusted Christian adults who can continue walking alongside them.

Marriage & Family Counseling

Strong families still experience difficult seasons.

Whether you are preparing for marriage, experiencing conflict in your marriage, struggling with communication, navigating parenting challenges, or facing a family crisis, biblical counseling can provide a safe place to talk honestly about what is happening and seek a path forward.

Our counselors seek to help couples and families identify underlying heart issues, improve communication, practice forgiveness and reconciliation where appropriate, and develop healthier patterns grounded in biblical truth.

Our Approach

Grace Place Hawaiʻi is committed to a counseling philosophy grounded in Scripture and shaped by the principles and training of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).

We believe effective biblical counseling should be:

Biblical
God's Word provides the foundation for understanding ourselves, our relationships, our struggles, and our hope in Christ.

Christ-Centered
Lasting hope is ultimately found not merely in changing circumstances, but in knowing and following Jesus Christ.

Compassionate
People experiencing difficult circumstances need to be heard and treated with patience, dignity, grace, and love.

Practical
Biblical truth should make a difference in everyday life. Counseling includes practical steps that help individuals and families apply what they are learning.

Connected to the Local Church
Whenever possible and appropriate, we encourage counselees to develop meaningful relationships within a healthy local church where ongoing discipleship, encouragement, accountability, and spiritual community can continue.

Meet Our Executive Director Rev. D. Chris Alsup, M.Div.

Executive Director, Grace Place Hawaiʻi and Pastor, Grace Church Kailua

Rev. D. Chris Alsup brings more than 40 years of pastoral and ministry experience to his leadership of Grace Place Hawaiʻi.

He earned his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and

has spent decades working with individuals, couples, families, children, and teenagers through pastoral ministry, Christian education, discipleship, and counseling.

Throughout his ministry, Chris has developed extensive experience working with adolescents and families, helping young people navigate the spiritual, relational, and personal challenges of the teenage years while helping parents strengthen their relationships with their children.

As Pastor of Grace Church Kailua and Executive Director of Grace Place Hawaiʻi, Chris's desire is to help develop a trusted biblical counseling ministry where people throughout Windward Oʻahu can find compassionate care rooted in Scripture and the hope of Jesus Christ.

Working Together With Other Biblical Counselors

Grace Place Hawaiʻi believes churches and biblical counseling ministries can accomplish more by working together.

We are grateful to collaborate with Harbor Biblical Counseling Center and others committed to providing Christ-centered biblical counseling in Hawaiʻi.

Our goal is not simply to build another counseling organization. We want to help strengthen a network of churches, pastors, counselors, and trained volunteers who are equipped to care biblically and compassionately for people throughout our islands.

Training the Next Generation of Biblical Counselors

Grace Place Hawaiʻi is not only a counseling center. We are also committed to training and equipping Christians to counsel others biblically.

Through our ACBC training program, pastors, ministry leaders, church members, and others can begin working through the training requirements associated with certification through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.

Our vision is to see trained biblical counselors serving not only at Grace Place Hawaiʻi but in churches and ministries throughout Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Click below to sign up.
